以研發創新新藥為主要方向，主要着重於具有抗炎、免疫調節與抗腫瘤作用的新藥基礎與應用研究。以我國豐富的動植物資源為基礎，利用天然產物中具有生物活性的物質作為先導化合物，從分離提取，化學結構鑑定、修飾與改造，化學合成及探索構效關係着手，研究與尋找具有以下幾方面的新藥。

抗腫瘤免疫調節藥物。

器官移植後的抗排異藥物。

探索由炎症引起的老年性痴呆治療藥物。

自身免疫系統引起的疾病如類風濕性關節炎、紅斑狼瘡等的治療藥物。
