謝曉亮於1980年考入北京大學化學系;1990年從加州大學聖地亞哥分校博士畢業後進入芝加哥大學從事博士後研究;1992年進入美國太平洋西北國家實驗室工作;1999年被聘為哈佛大學化學與化學生物系終身教授,是改革開放後哈佛大學引進的第一位來自中國大陸的終身教授;2009年擔任哈佛大學Mallinckrodt講席教授;2010年主持創辦北京大學生物動態光學成像中心,擔任主任;2016年組建北京大學未來基因診斷高精尖創新中心,擔任主任;2017年當選為中國科學院外籍院士;2018年7月正式全職回到北京大學工作,並擔任北京大學生物醫學前沿創新中心主任 [4]  ;2020年擔任北京昌平實驗室主任 [35]  ;2023年6月由中國科學院外籍院士轉為中國科學院院士。 [41-42]

謝曉亮人物經歷

1962年6月,謝曉亮出生於北京,並在北京大學附屬小學北京大學附屬中學度過小學與中學階段 [5]

1980年,考入北京大學化學系,業餘時間還旁聽了物理系和數學系的課程,還利用暑假到實驗室做實驗,學有機合成,又寫計算機程序做化學計算。
1985年夏,赴加州大學聖地亞哥分校攻讀博士,師從研究超快激光研究化學動力學的約翰·西蒙(John Simon)。
1989年,博士畢業後去芝加哥大學物理化學教授格雷厄姆·弗萊明(Graham Fleming)的實驗室做博士後。
1992年,進入美國太平洋西北國家實驗室(PNNL)工作,從事單個分子光譜和動力學、超高分辨光學成像研究,是PNNL自1965年成立以來第一位來自中國大陸的科學家。
1999年,被聘為哈佛大學化學與化學生物系終身教授,是改革開放以後哈佛大學引進的第一位來自中國大陸的終身教授。
2000年,在哈佛大學的第一年,謝曉亮寫了6個申請書,全部獲得資助。

2001年9月7日,受聘北京大學化學學院客座教授,同一天,受聘為分子動態與穩態結構國家重點實驗室學術委員會委員。
2004年,獲得美國國立衞生研究院(NIH)先鋒獎,在之後五年中每年獲得50萬美元的自由支配經費 [6] 
2008年,被北京大學生命科學學院聘為講座教授;同年,當選為美國藝術與科學學院院士。
2009年,擔任哈佛大學Mallinckrodt講席教授,是改革開放後大陸學者獲得哈佛大學冠名講席教授的第一人。
2010年12月,在北京大學主持創辦了北京大學生物動態光學成像中心(BIOPIC),擔任主任。
2011年,當選為美國國家科學院院士。
2013年,第二次獲得美國國立衞生研究院(NIH)先鋒獎 [7] 
2015年,謝曉亮與斯坦福大學教授Karl Deisseroth共同獲得阿爾伯尼生物醫學獎,成為該獎項的首位華人獲得者;同年,獲得美國化學會德拜獎 [8-9]

謝曉亮是單分子酶學的創始人、單分子生物物理化學的奠基人之一、相干拉曼散射顯微成像技術和單細胞基因組學的開拓者。謝曉亮作為單分子生物物理化學家,他勇於突破學科界限,從物理化學、生物物理到生物化學,再到分子生物學、基因組學及臨牀醫學,無畏探索,不斷創新,在相關新興交叉學科做出了創造性貢獻。
謝曉亮不僅是生物物理化學基礎科學研究的國際領軍人物,近年來大力推動了無標記光學成像技術和新型單細胞基因組測序技術在醫學中的應用。2012年謝曉亮在單細胞全基因組學研究有了突破性進展,開發了單細胞全基因組均勻擴增的新方法—多重退火循環擴增法(MALBAC)。2014年9月19日,世界上第一例“MALBAC嬰兒”在北醫三院誕生,標誌着中國胚胎植入前遺傳診斷技術處於世界領先水平 [14] 
在抗擊新冠疫情過程中,謝曉亮團隊成功研製出一組針對所有新冠病毒變種的廣譜中和抗體藥物SA55/SA58,並已將其授權轉讓給科興生物公司 [36]

謝曉亮在非線性拉曼顯微學和高靈敏度分子振動成像領域具有創新研究,在創立單分子生物物理化學領域中處於科學領導地位,而且他在酶反應動力學和活細胞基因表達領域做出了傑出工作 [26] (2009年美國歐內斯特·奧蘭多·勞倫斯獎)
謝曉亮是單細胞生物學領域的領軍人物,他已在該領域做出了關於單個分子及其行為影響細胞的生命過程乃至人類疾病的諸多研究成果 [20] (2015年美國阿爾伯尼生物醫學獎)
謝曉亮是學科交叉研究的踐行者,從物理化學、生物物理到生物化學,再到分子生物學,基因組學及臨牀醫學,他無畏探索,不斷創新,他是單分子酶學的創始人、單分子生物物理化學的奠基人之一、相干拉曼散射顯微成像技術和單細胞基因組學的開拓者,在單分子生物物理和生物醫學光學成像領域作出了傑出的貢獻 [27] (2017年求是科學基金會評)
做事情就是要持之以恆,不要放棄,要堅持,要不怕困難的做下去,要有耐心,不要追求那種短期就能出成果的東西。謝曉亮常常會用4年甚至更長的時間來做一個研究,他發現自己做錯的東西,也不放棄,重新開始做,所以,堅持是一個很重要的東西,是他獲得成功肯定的一個很重要的元素,對我也意義重大 [28] (美國國家科學院院士、哈佛大學教授莊小威
謝曉亮的第一個基礎研究工作是1998年開展的單分子酶學,他開創了在單分子層面對生命過程的研究。近年他又開始探探索在醫學上的應用。中國引進現代醫學後,在現代藥學方面只有少數幾個藥物作用領域的發現,在現代醫學技術上唯一的發明和應用就是謝曉亮和湯富酬、喬傑三個團隊合作誕生的‘MALBAC嬰兒’ [29] (北京大學生命科學院饒毅
