覃重軍,1965年2月生,籍貫湖南省邵陽市 [1]  ,中科院分子植物科學卓越創新中心研究員,中科院合成生物學重點實驗室主任,國家傑出青年基金獲得者。從事合成微生物、藥物生物製造等方面的研究。在國際上首次人工創建單條染色體真核細胞釀酒酵母。與企業合作利用基因組工程構建了抗寄生蟲藥物多拉菌素等工業生產菌株,打破了國外壟斷。 [2]

覃重軍,1965年生 [2]  ,1987年畢業於武漢大學生物系微生物專業,獲學士學位。 1992年畢業於華中農業大學微生物系,獲博士學位。 1994年被破格提拔為副教授。主持國家自然科學青年基金和湖北省自然科學基金各一項。 1995年至2000年在美國斯坦福大學基因工程創始人之一Stanley N. Cohen教授實驗室作博士後, 從事鏈黴菌線型質粒的複製、重組、修復、 接合轉移、端粒基因、異常DNA結構等方面的研究。 2001年通過“引進國外傑出人才計劃”答辯, 被中國科學院上海植物生理研究所聘為研究員、博士生導師。 2002年任微生物次生代謝分子調控研究開放實驗室主任。 2003年獲國家傑出青年科學基金資助。 2001年回國後主持國家“863”項目和國家自然科學基金共4項,主持上海市、科學院、所基金共5項。
1994年,覃重軍確立了自己的5個科學夢想:要在重大基礎研究、原創技術、產業化、解決人類疾病、新理論上有所突破。 [2] 
2013年5月8日,覃重軍瞄準了真核單細胞生物的模式材料——釀酒酵母,花了5年時間,用基因編輯的方法,將釀酒酵母中16條天然染色體合成為1條,創建出了國際首例人造單染色體真核細胞,實現“人造生命”里程碑式的重大突破。該成果於2018年8月2日在線發表在《自然》雜誌上。 [1]

覃重軍研究工作

從事分子微生物學、分子微生物組學和微生物藥物代謝工程的研究,主要內容包括:(1)放線菌線型染色體和線型質粒的生物學功能。(2)中草藥植物內生放線菌。(3)放線菌基因組工程。(4)微生物藥物工業生產菌種的遺傳改良。 [3] 

覃重軍學術成就

博士畢業論文發表在國際知名專業期刊《細菌學雜誌》上,這也是華中農大在該本雜誌上發表的第一篇學術文章。 [2] 
兩年前,覃重軍帶領團隊將釀酒酵母中16條天然染色體合成為1條,創建出了國際首例人造單染色體真核細胞。這一成果在線發表在《自然》雜誌上,被業界認為是合成生物學具有里程碑意義的重大突破。 [2] 
帶領團隊首次在粘細菌中發現質粒並建立遺傳操作系統,全世界有20多個實驗室來函索取質粒載體;對大腸桿菌的基因組進行了“刪減、重組、優化、合成”等操作,做了大量有益的探索。他的團隊與國內製藥企業合作改良了抗寄生蟲藥物多拉菌素,打破了國外在該領域的壟斷,藥品銷售額超過億元。 [1]

覃重軍在博士論文的後記中寫道:“近1300頁的實驗記錄中,失敗何止百次!然而,沒有一次失敗能夠真正打垮我,為什麼?照亮我前進道路並不斷給我勇氣去正視失敗的,是對科學的熱愛,對揭示生命世界奧秘的嚮往以及科學發現給我帶來的純真快樂……對我而言,科學是一條無窮無盡的探索之路,也許一生都會這樣幹下去。” [1-2]
