約翰·克里斯托夫·威廉斯

約翰·威廉斯無疑是當今世界最受人尊敬的的吉他演奏大師。他1941年4月24日生於澳大利亞的墨爾本，四歲時，便從父親那裏獲得了他的第一把吉他。當然，這樣的“好運氣”一般只有生在音樂家庭才能得到，小威廉斯的父親萊昂納多·威廉斯是一位小有名氣的爵士吉他手。11歲時，小威廉斯的才華打動了吉他皇帝塞戈維亞，並被安排參加了大師在意大利的暑期課程。

1958年11月6日，約翰威廉斯在他尚不足18歲時舉行了他的首次職業性演出，在那場音樂會的節目單上，吉他皇帝塞戈維亞的一句“吉他王子光臨音樂世界。”讓威廉斯從此有了“吉他王子”的美譽。

1959年，約翰·威廉斯畢業於倫敦皇家音樂學院。隨後，他一邊受到母校的邀請主持吉他系的籌建工作，一邊開始了他在多個國家的巡迴演出，足跡遍及倫敦、巴黎、馬德里及日本、蘇聯和美國等。1963年，他與sony唱片公司的前身CBS唱片公司簽約，他在CBS以及後來的Sony唱片公司所發行的唱片已超過80張。除此之外，威廉斯與布里姆的配合也可謂是樂壇的一段佳話。兩位風格迥異且都如日中天的演奏家很少能夠象他們倆一樣有着長年、默契的配合，並把古典吉他二重奏這一音樂形式帶到了一個新的藝術高度。在二重奏方面除他倆之外，也許只有一些夫妻或兄弟的組合才能達到如此境界了。他和朱利安·布里姆的二重奏唱片都是在布里姆所簽約的RCA唱片公司錄製發行的。出了布里姆之外，威廉斯作為古典音樂界的核心演奏家之一，還與很多著名的音樂家有過合作，包括小提琴家帕爾曼，指揮家普列文等等。

父親的爵士吉他手的背景使威廉斯並不象大多數古典音樂家一般刻板，60年代末期，他開始走出古典音樂圈，去嘗試各種音樂形式。爵士、流行音樂、搖滾，威廉斯頂着來自各方的壓力暢遊在自己的音樂旅程之中。此間，他亦在各個領域創造了多項記錄，包括唱片的銷量、流行音樂的排行榜等等等等。1979年，他在古典陣營驚異的眼光中，和四個朋友一起成立了天空搖滾樂隊，並度過了5年繁忙的時光（因為他仍舊在做着他作為一個古典音樂家所該做的事情）。

90年代以後，約翰·威廉斯似乎又恢復了他的古典大師的本色，年齡和花白的頭髮似乎也令他更加神采奕奕。此後他在Sony唱片公司所錄製的唱片大多獲得了超乎以往的更高評價。

1995年，威廉斯大師訪華，並舉辦音樂會。2000年2月21日和22日，威廉斯大師再次來到中國首都北京，舉辦獨奏音樂會和協奏曲音樂會，取得巨大成功，那也是很多中國的古典吉他愛好者心中永遠難忘的兩個美好夜晚。 ^[1] 

約翰·威廉斯生於澳大利亞墨爾本，父親是英國人（創立了倫敦吉他學校），母親是澳洲華裔，墨爾本律師麥錫祥之女。曾師從吉他大師安德烈斯·塞戈維亞（Andrés Segovia），並曾在倫敦的皇家音樂學院

約翰·威廉斯

（Royal College of Music）學習鋼琴（由於該院沒有吉他專業）。畢業後，他得到學校的邀請創立吉他專業，並執教兩年。

威廉斯被認為是當代最重要的吉他演奏家之一，演出和錄製過大量的古典吉他曲目。他曾與另一位重要的吉他演奏家朱利安·布里姆長期合作吉他二重奏。威廉斯曾委託多名當代作曲家創作吉他協奏曲，例如 Stephen Dodgson, 安德魯·普列文, Patrick Gowers, Richard Harvey 和 Steve Gray。他也同澳大利亞的作曲家合作創作反映澳大利亞的本土音樂。

威廉斯曾為電影《獵鹿人》演奏了著名的主題曲卡瓦蒂納（Cavatina）。 威廉斯注重與流行音樂和其它音樂類型的合作與交流。1970年代末，一度與他人合作創建了搖滾樂隊“天空”，並灌錄了一些古典-搖滾混合風格的音樂。 ^[1]

威廉斯和他的第三任妻子Kathy居住在倫敦和澳大利亞。他有個女兒Kate，是一位爵士鋼琴手

弗拉門戈吉他演奏家帕科·佩尼亞評價他：　“約翰的演奏技巧是無與倫比的，不過我特別欣賞他的一點是他懂得理解作曲家的作品。在某種程度上，他有能力讓音樂本身來説話，而不是讓聽眾聽他的演奏，可以説這就是他的品格，一種了不起的品格。” ^[4]  “對於我一個弗拉門戈的演奏者來説節奏是第一位的，我發覺有許多古典吉他演奏家在演奏西班牙音樂的時候，甚至是西班牙的古典吉他演奏家演奏西班牙音樂的時候，他們的表現節奏往往有點隨心所欲，或者故作姿態，裝出很浪漫的樣子，這太好笑了，而約翰就做得特別好。他的節奏生動活潑，連續不斷，該怎麼樣就怎麼樣。” ^[5]
