Go West

Go West發行於1979年，但是該歌曲最初並沒有像樂隊的其它作品如Y.M.C.A.和In the Navy流行。

歌曲的名字是源自於霍勒斯·格里利的語錄“Go West, young man”（去西部吧，年輕人）之中，是一個美國西部殖民統治的口號。同時，Go West同時也被理解為二十世紀70年代時期，去往舊金山被認為是同性戀解放運動的理想之地。

1978年，亨利·史密斯的基督教歌曲《獻上感恩的心》（Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart）與該歌曲的的曲調有顯著性的相似。

歌曲在7寸唱片和12寸唱片版本都收錄在村民樂團之後的各種精選集，包括1993年寵物店男孩版本之後的1997年電台再次混音版本。

Go West是迪斯科樂團村民上個世紀70年代的一首單曲。這首歌曲於1993年被寵物店男孩翻唱並大獲成功。該歌曲的內涵隨着時代而變化，從上世紀70年代宣傳同性戀運動，到90年代則是號召東方的青年來到西方資本主義國家，而如今則成為了一首富有激情的世界盃用曲。

在1992年，德里克·加曼讓寵物店男孩在曼徹斯特為艾滋病慈善晚會演出，樂團的克里斯·洛選擇了Go West作為他們的演唱曲目。儘管樂隊歌手尼爾·坦南特記不住了當時演唱的歌詞，不過之後，二人還是決定把Go West錄製成單曲。在1993年，Go West作為單曲發行，並收錄在他們的新專輯《Very》之中。在2001年寵物店男孩的音樂劇Closer to Heaven曾使用過該歌曲。

此曲在最開始為“村民”(Village People)樂隊創作。

此曲後來經過“寵物店男孩”(Pet Shop Boys)進行改編，歌詞調整了成如下：

在德國世界盃每場結束時都會播放一首新的球迷音樂，這就是Pet shop boys的《GO WEST》。成立於1981年的“寵物店男孩”(Pet Shop Boys)可算得上是八十年代最後一支也是最成功的電子音樂組合。

寵物店男孩並不是一支偶像派的樂隊，而是完全的實力派。

這首歌很好聽，但是若干年間在大陸是禁播的。因為當時的政治原因和MTV的內容似乎對社會主義國家有所指，所以在當時的社會主義國家都是禁播的。後來隨着世界政局的變化。這首歌慢慢演變成了非常有名的足球歌曲。同時也是德國同志電影《夏日風暴》中的插曲。 ^[2]
