世界大學生運動會 ^[2]  是國際大學生體育聯合會主辦的世界性綜合運動會。Universiade是一個專用名詞，由“University”（大學）和“Olympiad”（奧林匹克）兩個詞合成，特指專門為大學生舉辦的世界性的奧林匹克運動會。

它由三大賽事組成，即“世界大學生夏季運動會”、“世界大學生冬季運動會”和“世界大學生體育錦標賽”。

到1999年，世界大學生運動會已成功舉辦過20屆。第21屆世界大學生運動會將於2001年8月在中國北京舉行。
