待到重逢時

一個跨越一戰、二戰和戰後歲月的漫長曲折的故事

第一次世界大戰前，十七歲的法國姑娘伊芙（露茜·格特里奇飾）迷戀上歌手阿蘭（邁克斯韋爾·考爾菲爾德飾），跟隨他跑到巴黎。後來她成為一個歌星，但男朋友卻拋棄了她。戰爭爆發了，伊芙到前線演出，遇到外交官出身的軍官保羅（邁克爾·約克飾）。保羅為參戰，放棄了外交官的職務，引起丈人家的不滿，導致妻子自殺。戰爭結束前一年，保羅在巴黎再次見到伊芙，二人相愛結婚。戰後保羅重新成為外交官，長期在國外供職，他們有了兩個可愛的女兒。小女兒弗蕾蒂從小就迷上了飛行，瞞着父親跟着特技飛行員邁克（巴里·博斯特維克飾）學飛行。

十多年後，保羅攜妻子和兩個女兒回家鄉休假，與分別近二十年的兒子布魯諾（休·格蘭特飾）相見，但布魯諾對父親很冷淡，對繼母伊芙更是充滿敵意。

大女兒德爾斐恩（米阿·薩拉飾）像當年的伊芙一樣，在巴黎愛上了年輕的電影導演阿蒙德（查爾斯·肖內西飾），並在演藝界發展。二女兒弗蕾蒂（考特妮·考克斯飾）不顧父母的反對，堅持學習特技飛行，被趕出家門，與邁克同居。不料在一次特技飛行中，代弗蕾蒂駕機飛行的邁克失事身亡。

第二次世界大戰爆發了，保羅再次從軍，伊芙留在家中照顧葡萄園。二女兒弗蕾蒂也參加了英國皇家空軍，與英國軍官託尼（約翰·維克裏飾）相愛並結婚。大女兒德爾斐恩在德軍佔領下的巴黎繼續從事演藝事業。布魯諾勾結德國佔領軍，出賣民族和家族利益，槍殺同胞，德爾斐恩不願像他那樣巴結德寇，布魯諾氣急敗壞，竟將同父異母的妹妹強姦。伊芙為救成為戰俘即將被運往集中營的女婿阿蒙德，參加游擊隊的伏擊戰而受傷……

戰爭結束了，保羅回到家鄉，怒打布魯諾，將其逐出家門。布魯諾懷恨在心，背地裏使手腳，使家族葡萄園的經營陷入困境，並奪得所有權，卻被村民認出其是法奸而處死。

弗蕾蒂和丈夫託尼戰後加入了戰友瓊克（美國人，布魯斯·博克斯雷特納飾）的航運公司來到美國，託尼拈花惹草，夫妻感情失和而離婚。弗蕾蒂在一次飛行事故中死裏逃生，從此懼怕飛行。在戰爭期間一直就默默深愛着她的戰友瓊克的幫助下，弗蕾蒂終於重上藍天……

第一部，劇中年代為1913-1936年。
