歌曲結尾的旁白由恐怖電影演員文森特·普萊斯獻聲。羅德·湯普頓想讓文森特·普萊斯像一些他曾經飾演過的恐怖電影角色那樣講話。準備錄音的前一天晚上，昆西·瓊斯建議羅德·湯普頓最好寫點東西給文森特·普萊斯。於是，羅德·湯普頓為歌曲的結尾寫了一段鬼魅旁白，然後在等出租車去錄音室的時候，又在路上寫了兩段

《Thriller》化妝特效(8張)
歌詞開始部分用午夜（Midnight）、惡魔（Evil）、月色（Moonlight）等形象營造了恐怖肅殺的氣氛。第二段獨唱的歌詞氣氛更為緊張，用“門猛地關上”（You hear the door slam）説明魔鬼步步緊逼，已經陷入絕境的景象。第三段的歌詞描寫了魔鬼已經來到眼前的場景（There's demons closing in on every side），情緒緊張度也達到了最高點。
在每一段落後的副歌部分中，恐怖逼迫下的邁克爾·傑克遜發出了：“你要為自己生命而戰”（You're fighting for your life）的口號，這也正是歌詞的主旨：“沒有人能在困境中拯救你，只有依靠自己，為生命而戰。”
作品使用了自然小調，第一樂段中以五聲音階式的進行為主，帶有黑人音樂的特點。前兩句重複均在屬音上半終止，b句落在主音上，而b句在下屬音上半終止，形成了開放的音樂結構。
第二樂段疊入，增加了音樂的連貫性與緊張度。旋律音區提高，調性變化，離調到上五度的屬小調，形成高潮。旋律進行在四度跳進後形成連續級進下行的線條，並迂迴收束於下屬音，彷彿惡魔步步緊逼，恐怖之情也一點點增加。樂段最後出現了以小三和絃分解為主的音調，更加形象地塑造了惡魔令人顫慄的形象。
第三樂段使用了第二段連續下行的材料，c句從主音連續下行到下方八度的主音，進一步深化了顫慄之夜的景象。c句在後兩小節用以同音反覆為主的旋律線條發出了“你的末日已到”的警告。尾聲六小節回顧了主題材料,鞏固了調性與終止。
