1973年編導處女作《Schlock》，是以大猩猩肆虐南加州為題材的恐怖喜劇。

五年後執導《動物屋》，捧紅了胖子諧星約翰布魯奇。其後兩人再合作《福祿雙霸天》，商業上大獲成功。

在八十年代拍了一些廣受歡迎的喜劇，包括《你整我，我整你》和《來去美國》，恐怖喜劇《美國狼人在倫敦》也影響深遠。

近年也拍攝了不少電視劇，並且參加一些影片的演出。

約翰曾導演過邁克爾·傑克遜兩部音樂MV，《Thriller》、《black or white》。

劇情介紹：

根據同名美國電視經典科幻影集拍攝而成的豪華電影版，由四名大導演約翰·蘭迪斯、史蒂文·斯皮爾伯格、喬·但丁、喬治·米勒各自執導一個短篇故事，其中三段根椐原來的影集劇本重拍，雖並未拍出人們預期的經典高標準，但其玄奇迷離的氣氛仍相當有吸引力。四段中以喬治．米勒執導的第四段娛樂效果最高，描述約翰·李斯高坐在二萬尺高空的客機上發現艙外出現妖怪，但沒有人相信他的説法，到底這只是他的一場噩夢，還是真有其事？整段戲的震慄氣氛經營得相當成功，特技效果也做得出色。
