Space Oddity

《Space Oddity》的創作靈感來自於電影《2001太空漫遊》 ^[3]  。這是一首關於走向死亡的宇航員湯姆上校（Major Tom）的歌曲。1969年初，大衞·鮑伊拍攝了一部宣傳片《Love You Till Tuesday》（1984年才發佈），來展示他第一張專輯中的歌曲，併為其錄製了一組歌曲。《Space Oddity》的早期版本就出現在這組歌曲中。在這組歌裏，其他歌曲都是由Tony Visconti製作的，但他拒絕製作《Space Oddity》，覺得它是一首怪歌。接替Tony Visconti工作的Gus Dudgeon從原聲小樣中發現了這首歌的潛力，決定用交響樂配器，讓Paul Buckmaster精心改編，Pentangle樂隊的鼓手Terry Cox則在它原有的軍樂節奏中加入了一些微妙的爵士節奏 ^[2]  。

《Space Oddity》不是大衞·鮑伊最好聽的歌，在他風格多換的歷史中，這首歌也沒什麼代表性，但它是令他為人所知的第一首歌。在這首歌裏，有理想主義的喪失，有不可理喻的幻想，有如體液般曖昧滑膩的旋律，還有收斂了毒品音樂一切氣質的早期合成器 ^[4]  。《Space Oddity》流露着一份幽悒而神秘的氣氛，表現出大衞·鮑伊在音樂上的想象力 ^[3]  。

英國廣播公司曾在報道登月時使用了《Space Oddity》。2013年，加拿大宇航員克里斯·哈德菲爾德在國際空間站中翻唱了《Space Oddity》 ^[5]  。2018年8月6日，SpaceX發射了“重型獵鷹”運載火箭，將《Space Oddity》送上了太空播放 ^[6]  。
