出演迪士尼情景喜劇《新成長的煩惱》後，希拉里·達夫獲得了知名度。她為由該劇改編的電影《平民天后》演唱了三首插曲，原聲帶被美國唱片業協會認證為“白金唱片”。因此，迪士尼公司趁熱打鐵，決定為她推出專輯。迪士尼公司為她聘請了一些資深的音樂人為她寫歌，其中就包括這首《So Yesterday》
