作為成軍於83年的佛羅里達前衞金屬樂團。

Savatage最初是以Jon Oliva和Criss Oliva兩兄弟構成核心的。大量的古典樂段。前衞金屬式的編曲。貫穿始終的鋼琴。Jon悽清的鋼琴與Criss悲涼的吉他深情對奏。從而營造出一種旋律優美，節奏清冷的獨特氛圍。

可惜的是。Criss在93年因為一場車禍去世。由此造成了樂團的大換血。不過非常幸運和可貴的是，Savatage並沒有因為這意外的打擊而走向滑坡或倒退。反而以一種更強者的姿態繼續向更高層次不斷邁進。

作為Savatage最受好評的經典專輯，91年的《Streets: A Rock Opera》是一張概念性的前金歌劇式作品。主題講述的是一個搖滾歌手從自頹自棄到自強自立的故事。這種敍事手法與Pink Floyd的《The Wall》專輯有點類似。但藝術搖滾鉅作《The Wall》成就的是人文價值觀的深度和哲學理論的批判性。而《Streets: A Rock Opera》則將觀察和考究的目光從宏觀放大到局部，以感性和激情剖析人性中最為隱蔽和潛藏的壓抑面。

而樂團95年的另一出彩之作《Dead Winter Dead》，編曲更注重古典架構和絃樂層次的鋪設，併成功地將多首莫扎特名曲改編為演奏曲。專輯的概念性和敍事性比起《Streets: A Rock Opera》進一步地得到了加強和完善。篇章主旨圍繞着一個南斯拉夫內戰中希望以拉奏大提琴化解戰火和爭鬥的塞拉耶佛老人的故事展開敍述，歌詞沉重而催人淚下，實為不可多得的前金專輯。作為一支多產的金屬樂團，Savatage在近20年的歷程中為我們奉獻了太多的優秀作品。最為難能可貴的是，樂團在充沛的創作力下面仍然保持着高水準的專輯素質。

作為前衞金屬樂界的超重量級樂團，其地位及重要性甚與Dream Theater、Fates Warning等團相提並論

1981. Jon Oliva和Criss Oliva兩兄弟在佛羅里達組建了一個地下樂隊Avatar 其他成員還包括 鼓手Steve Wacholz 貝司手Keith Collins

1982. Avatar為一張合集錄制了兩首作品 唱片公司是 Florida radio station WYNF

1983. Avatar發行了一張（EP）City Beneath The Surface 由於一些法律上的原因 Avatar將名字改成了Savatage 並且發行了他們的第一張專輯Sirens

1984. Savatage發行專輯The Dungeons Are Calling 然後與Atlantic Records簽約

1985. Savatage發行他們在Atlantic的第一張專輯Power of the Night 然後樂隊舉行了第一次巡演

1986. 貝司手Johnny Lee Middleton 加入樂隊 專輯Fight For The Rock發行 同時第一次去歐洲演出為Motorhead作暖場樂隊 在一次演出當中與製作人Paul O'Neill相識

1987. Atlantic聘請Paul O'Neill為Savatage製作新專輯 這也開始了一段長久的友誼 專輯Hall of the Mountain King發行 其中包括了樂隊第 一首融入了交響樂元素的作品 "Prelude to Madness," 同時專輯同名歌曲也被拍成了music video 這也是Savatage的第一首音樂錄影帶

1988. Savatage與Dio和Megadeth舉行了聯合美國巡演 節奏吉他手Chris Caffery作為巡演嘉賓加入樂隊 音樂錄影帶24 Hours Ago發行 然後參加MTV的著名節目“Headbanger's Ball”

1989. Caffery正式加入Savatage 同時樂隊的第六張專輯Gutter Ballet發行

1990. Savatage舉行了為期9個月的世界巡演 參與的樂隊還包括Testament和King Diamond.巡演結束後 Caffery離開了樂隊 Savatage還錄製了兩首新的錄影帶"Gutter Ballet"和"When The Crowds Are Gone"

1991. 與O'Neill合作 Savatage錄製了第一張搖滾歌劇Streets 同時拍攝了兩首Video "Jesus Saves" 和 "New York City Don't Mean Nothing"但是隻有前一首被髮行 之後再一次舉辦世界巡演

1992. 由於越來越覺得力不從心 Jon Oliva決定放棄主唱的位置 專心於幕後製作和器樂演奏 Zachary Stevens正式成為樂隊的新任主唱

1993. Savatage的第八張專輯 Edge of Thorns發行 但是Wacholz和Jon Oliva 決定不參與之後的樂隊世界巡演 隨後拍攝Music videos "Edge of Thorns" 和 "Sleep" are filmed. 10月份 Criss Oliva在一次交通意外中喪生 他參與錄製的最後一首歌是"Shotgun Innocence."
