Love The Way You Lie創作背景

這首歌創作於2009年底，在進行錄製前，音樂製作人亞歷克斯男孩花了多個小時來製作歌曲的電子鼓節奏，並採用現場錄音保存^[8] 。2010年初，亞歷克斯男孩向Shady唱片公司高管瑞格·莫拉萊斯提供這首歌，同時也並得到了他的一些支持^[9] 。瑞格·莫拉萊斯在聽過後便喜歡上這首歌曲，於是就把它交給埃米納姆^[9] 。

與此同時，埃米納姆此時正為他的下一張專輯《Recovery》尋找不同的音樂，於是便試聽了這首歌曲的樣品。埃米納姆在聽了樣品後，便要求亞歷克斯男孩給他聽完整的歌曲。在聽完後，埃米納姆選擇錄製這首歌曲，並告訴他的音樂經紀人保羅·羅森伯格他想與蕾哈娜合作，因為他認為這首歌的其中幾段歌詞只有她才能唱得出來。保羅·羅森伯格把消息告訴蕾哈娜後，蕾哈娜便答應了埃米納姆的請求，同意錄製這首歌^[9-11] 。

雖説蕾哈娜的嗓音在歌曲開頭出現的形式較為傳統老套，卻多少將這首中板歌曲推向了更為抒情化的層面，同時也讓這支嘻哈單曲加入了親切的成分。這首歌談論的是家庭暴力，歌曲中的兩人都想離開對方卻又離不開，迫於暴力，也迫於猶豫和縱容，就這樣一次一次受到傷害，直到毀滅。蕾哈娜的聲音有點陰鬱，而埃米納姆的強烈説唱，使愛情的無奈和無力多了一份蒼勁和乾脆，與蕾哈娜柔和的聲音非常混搭，一氣呵成^[14-15] 。
