Taylor在介紹這首歌時是這麼説的：
“The song "Last Kiss" is a sort of like a letter to somebody.
Last Kiss這首歌在某種意義上是一封寫給某人的信。
You say all of these desperate, hopeless feelings that you have after a breakup.

Going through a breakup you feel all of these different things.

You feel anger, and you feel confusion, and frustration.

Joe Jonas
自2006年6月正式出道以來，6年多的時間裏Taylor在娛樂圈內談過6個男友，而Joe Jonas則是她第一個圈內男友。
出生於1989年8月15日的Joe Jonas是樂隊Jonas Brothers的三個成員之一。兩人在2008年的夏天因為合作的關係而認識。、
《Last Kiss》歌曲裏有一句：
I ran off the plane that July 9。
2008年的7月9日，Taylor正是去了Jonas Brothers的一個演唱會。
然而到了9月份，Joe在拍攝歌曲《Lovebug》的MV時認識了MV女主Camilla Belle，隨後與Taylor在一通27秒的電話中分手了。
9月底，Taylor臨時錄製了一首寫給Joe的歌曲《Forever & Always》，收錄在她於11月11日發行的第二張錄音室專輯《Fearless》中。這一段戀情帶給Taylor的情感與回憶，顯然不是一首《Forever & Always》就能完全描述的。正如上面的介紹中她自己所説的，分手後，她感到憤怒，沮喪，困惑，所以有了《Forever & Always》這首歌，有了她在Ellen Show大爆Joe在一通27秒的電話中甩了她的事。
