Emotion Side B

在2015年6月，卡莉·蕾·吉普森推出了她的第三張錄音室專輯《E·MO·TION》，遇到了一個並不熱烈的的商業反應。儘管如此，這張專輯還是讓粉絲產生了強烈的崇拜和讓她變成“CriticalDarling” ^[1]  。《E·MO·TION》被NPR , NME , Complex , 以及The Village Voice等網站列入年度專輯名單。而且專輯的宣傳週期期間，卡莉·蕾·吉普森在廣受歡迎的2016年Pitchfork音樂節上的表演受到了廣泛好評。

在2016年3月的WMSC電台採訪，卡莉·蕾·吉普森表達了一個願望，她將會釋出一些錄製專輯後未被選進專輯裏的歌曲，説她一直在考慮一個《E·MO·TION 2.0》版本。在給《E·MO·TION》專輯歌曲排序的時候，卡莉·蕾·吉普森和她的團隊不得不把專輯曲目限制在17首以內。

卡莉·蕾·吉普森：“當我選出了所有歌曲我最愛的前40名時，我像是在挑逗我的唱片公司。在我離開的三年後，如果我釋出了40首歌曲會不會很奇怪？”[偷笑] 他們就像，“會的，所以那不會發生。”我説，“你確定嗎？”他們説，“是啊，我們非常肯定。”那麼，好吧，我不得不將它的曲目減少。我們曾有過非常激烈的辯論，和充滿激情的電子郵件回覆像“不要殺了我的孩子！” 我本來以為我能有21首歌曲，然後我不得不減少到12首。然後我們把豪華版提升到17首，這是一個很大的爭論，但爭論宜人;每個人都真正瞭解我應該走的路線。E·MO·TION的曲目選擇可能已經被我改變了六次。我有一個小畫架板，每當我隔一段時間回到家，我會寫下一首我喜歡的歌總比不得不決定採取哪首來的更好。我不得不重新規劃它，所以它幾乎每個星期都煥然一新 ^[2-3]  。

其中不包括在專輯中的歌，《When I'm Alone》被韓國娛樂公司SM娛樂購買，收錄於F(x)的第四張正規專輯《4 Walls》中。

《Emotion Remixed +》在日本獨家發佈並選了兩首新歌《First Time》和《Fever》，後來也收錄在《Emotion Side B》中。

2011年，卡莉·蕾·吉普森參加了她家鄉British Columbia 's Healthy Living Alliance反吸煙運動的健康生活聯盟，叫做“Quitters Unite”，其作為號召的未發行歌曲被重新改編成了《Store》。

《Emotion Side B》得到了樂評家廣泛好評，Metacritic的標準評價滿分為100分，這張專輯在主流媒體評價基礎上獲得了平均80分

Sputnikmusic的Will Robinson給了這張專輯五分之四的星值，寫到"Carly Rae captures the glitz and glamour and grime and sex and directionless sadness and anxiety of her listeners so, so well, and the way it's wrapped up in an endlessly compelling composition of synth jams, funk accessories, and modern electro-pop makes it even better."

Entertainment Weekly的編輯給了這張專輯A-的分數，寫到"Side B is that bash: intimate yet inclusive, with an invitation personally delivered by hand."

Exclaim!的Jill Krajewski給了這張專輯8/10的分數，寫到"Unlike many B-side collections, much of E·MO·TION: Side B has single potential to the point where it's crazy that high-energy synth-pop gems like "First Time," "Higher" and "Body Language" were left off of E·MO·TION for mid-tempo bonus cuts like "Black Heart“.

Pitchfork的Brad Nelson給了這張專輯7.1/10的分數，寫到"That the songs can sound enormous while maintaining this kind of person-to-person intimacy is Jepsen's particular talent."

The 405的Mark Matousek給了這張專輯5.5/10的分數, 寫到 "The success of Emotion and its predecessor, Kiss, was a product of balance. ... Side B does not find that balance, and is most instructive in the ways it illuminates her process. It lets us peek in on the misfits that are the product of every pop album, and hints at the unsexy labor of music-making."
