香草酸與香草醛同屬肉桂酸類衍生物, 廣泛存在於自然界中, 如在香莢蘭豆、香子蘭的莢、秘魯香膏、安息香膏、爪哇香毛油等許多植物及精油中均有發現。酪氨酸、兒茶酚胺的代謝產物。主要以硫酸酯結合型存在於尿中。
