《玉》名字的由來源於千年前動人故事中的“寧為玉碎，不為瓦全”，也源於英語中“You”的諧音，串聯古今，溝通中外，張藝興的《玉》有頌古通今、“中西合璧”之意。《玉》將中國傳統元素與流行元素結合，用嘻哈的方式講述古代的故事。 ^[2]

《玉》由張藝興聯手製作人Murda Beatz共同完成，歌曲由一段經典的京劇intro做引，再在張藝興的葫蘆絲和仿古音樂的採樣中加入Murda獨特的鼓點，中國傳統樂器的聲音張力和歐美嘻哈的簡潔動感結合，形成互補之姿，再有張藝興的獨特唱腔加成，整個歌曲魅力十足，令人驚豔。值得注意的是，張藝興在歌曲中創新加入女旦唱腔，使得歌曲層次更為豐富，而副歌中不斷重複的“玉、玉、玉”，將流行元素和洗腦旋律完美結合，行成歌曲中不可或缺的記憶點，雅俗共賞，巧妙精美。 ^[2]
