2000—2002 新加坡南洋理工大學土木工程系結構工程專業碩士學位(ME)
2005—2008 美國西北大學土木/機械工程系理論與應用力學專業博士學位(PhD)
曾任美國埃克森美孚公司高級研究員、工程專家,西北工業大學國際合作處處長(國際教育學院院長)。 [1-2]

2023年9月12日上午,西安建築科技大學召開幹部大會,宣佈免去姚堯同志西安建築科技大學黨委常委、委員職務,不再擔任西安建築科技大學副校長。 [7] 
2023年9月12日,學校在未央校區召開幹部任職宣佈大會,宣佈省委關於學校領導任職的決定:姚堯同志任西安工業大學校長、黨委副書記。 [8] 
2023年9月21日,陝西省政府決定,任命姚堯為西安工業大學校長(試用期一年),免去姚堯西安建築科技大學副校長職務。 [9-10] 

姚堯研究方向

主要從事多物理場及極端荷載作用下多尺度材料與結構力學性能的研究。
主要研究方向包括多物理場耦合等複雜荷載下先進材料的本構關係、疲勞及損傷等力學行為、電子芯片及封裝結構損傷與加固、高温下鋼筋混凝土及複合結構防災與穩定分析,岩土水工壓裂數值模擬分析,非晶材料力學性能等。

擔任10餘種國際SCI期刊及規範的長期評審人。
中國力學學會高級會員,美國岩石力學學會編委會委員;ASCE、ASME、IEEE等協會會員;ABAQUS斷裂研究國際專家組成員。教育部科技進步獎、國家自然科學基金、陝西省科技重大專項、科技部國際合作等項目評審專家。任本領域國際知名SCI期刊RMRE編委,JMMP副主編。 [2]
