十字花目分類簡史

1981年的克朗奎斯特分類法將其列為白花菜目（Capparales），屬於雙子葉植物綱五椏果亞綱，含有5科，427屬，約4000種。生活環境多樣，但栽培的種類在菜園的肥沃土壤中生長繁盛。本目有相當大的經濟價值。
1998年根據基因親緣關係分類的APG分類法列為十字花目（Brassicales，字面意為“蕓薹目”），屬於II類真薔薇分支（eurosids II），2003年經過修訂的APGII分類法維持原分類。 [4]  2009年10月APG III分類系統發表，II類真薔薇定名為錦葵類（malvids）植物。 [1-2]

2016年發表的APG IV系統中，十字花目屬於薔薇類之錦葵類，其下包含17科。 [3] 

十字花目形態特徵

莖和葉：草本或木本。單葉或掌狀複葉，稀具托葉。
花：輻射對稱至兩側對稱，雄蕊多數至定數；心皮合生，側膜胎座，子房常有柄，由2心皮組成。
果實和種子：胚乳少或缺；胚彎曲或折狀。
