天佑新西蘭

天佑新西蘭(毛利語/英語：God Defend New Zealand)與天佑吾王同為新西蘭的國歌，地位等同。

天佑新西蘭與天佑吾王（God Save the King）都是新西蘭的國歌，地位等同。不過，現時無論是學校週會還是國家代表隊出外比賽，一般都只會用“天佑新西蘭”這一首歌；與此同時，新西蘭民眾一般都不同意國家有兩首地位等同的國歌。

有關新西蘭國歌的應用，由新西蘭文化及傳統部負責管理。

“天佑新西蘭”的歌詞本來是一首詩，於1870年代由Thomas Bracken所創作。1876年，有人為了替這首詩譜上音樂而舉辦了一次比賽，獲勝者可以得到十個Guineas(英國的舊金幣)。結果這次比賽由John Joseph Woods勝出。據聞他就在發現比賽通告的當晚就寫好這首樂曲。在19世紀到20世紀初期，這首歌的受歡迎程度一直有增無減。1940年，新西蘭政府正式購入這首歌的版權，並在建國100週年時宣佈訂定這首歌為國詠。1976年，國會提出動議，要求訂立這首歌為國歌。在取得英國女王伊麗莎白二世許可的情況下，本歌正式於1977年11月21日成為新西蘭的第二國歌。

1978年6月1日，內政部宣佈他們為這首國歌重新編曲，以使之更適合大眾演唱，並請了當時的名歌手Maxwell Fernie演唱這首新歌。

自1950年的大英帝國運動會起,新西蘭就把它當成國歌。在1972年慕尼黑奧運會當中,第一次在奧運時使用“天佑新西蘭”來當成新西蘭的國歌。

“天佑新西蘭”總共有五段歌詞。原文只有英語版本，但後來當原住民的利益重新得到確認，開始出現了毛利語版本的歌詞。一般來説，我們日常生活只會採用歌詞的第一段。而根據新西蘭的習慣，唱國歌之時會先唱毛利語版本，然後才唱英語版本。在非常罕見的情況下，英語歌詞的第二段亦會唱。

Copyright on the English lyrics for God Defend New Zealand expired in 1948, fifty years after the death of the author.

There is some discussion, with no official explanation, of the meaning of "Pacific's triple star".

At least two Māori versions have been made. The first by Thomas H. Smith of Auckland, a judge in the Native Land Court, on request of governor George Edward Grey in 1878, and the second by former Māori Language Commissioner, Professor Timoti S. Käretu, commissioned in 1979.

英文歌詞的兩段註釋的中文意思： 《上帝保佑新西蘭》的歌詞於1948年確定，在這時這段詞的作者已經過逝50多年。

於“Pacific's triple star”這句詞上存在爭論，新西蘭官方尚未對此做出解釋。

但是通過和新西蘭友人的交流，一般指新西蘭的三個島：南島、北島和斯圖爾特島。
