《Venus》在製作過程中採樣了爵士大師Sun Ra的歌曲《Rocket Number Nine》以及Zombie Zombie的歌曲《Rocket Number 9》 ^[1]  。

2013年9月3日，Gaga在Twitter上面發起兩個投票，讓粉絲們決定《ARTPOP》的第二支發行單曲。第一個投票提供《MANiCURE》和《Sexxx Dreams》兩個選擇，而第二個投票則提供了《Aura》和《Swine》兩個選擇，但最終這四首曲目都未被正式發行。

2013年9月20日，Gaga發推稱專輯第二支單曲將於專輯《ARTPOP》發行之前發行。 她補充説： “對於第二支單曲，有很多的選擇，我想選擇一首完全代表‘我’的歌曲，對我來説這就是選出最佳的歌曲……（同時），有一種可能就是你還沒聽到過第二支單曲。 ^[2] 

2013年10月10日，Gaga在Twitter上宣佈《Venus》為專輯《ARTPOP》第二支單曲，於2013年10月27日發佈。25日官方將放出歌曲片段以供試聽。 10月13日，Gaga在Twitter上透露正在拍攝《Venus》的音樂錄像帶，由露絲·霍格本（Ruth Hogben）導演。之後因原定宣傳單曲《Do What U Want》獲得意想不到的商業成功，《Venus》被改為專輯首支宣傳單曲，《Do What U Want》最終成為第二支單曲。原定《Venus》MV片段作為宣傳用到了廣告中。

2013年10月25日，Gaga發佈了歌曲的三張單曲封面，都由攝影師Steven Klein拍攝。
