The Doors ^[3]  ，大門，著名的美國迷幻搖滾代表樂隊。其靈魂人物主唱吉姆·莫里森（Jim Morrison）於1943年12月8日出生在美國佛羅里達州的默爾本市，這個體面的家庭有着海軍上將父親和出身名門的母親，然而父親粗暴刻板的教育加上對和平主義的信仰使得兒子終生憎恨父親，他們最終斷絕了關係。Jim對藝術的喜愛開始於1957年，這一年Jim同家人再次移居舊金山。當時舊金山正是垮掉派的中心，即使在街頭你也很有可能親耳聽到愛倫·金斯伯格和喬治·考索朗誦詩歌Jim不僅整日沉溺於垮掉派的文學作品，還無比熱愛法國後浪漫派詩歌以及波德萊爾、蘭波等先驅詩人們的詩作，這些作品的風格以後一直影響着Jim的音樂和詩歌創作。

服完兵役後Jim入讀聖地哥大學，並於1963年轉入UCLA電影學院。在校期間直到1965年畢業，Jim都在不停的寫詩，此時的他對音樂毫無興趣，他的大腦裏只有電影，神學，潛意識和劇本，直到他遇到了同校的Ray Manzarek（The Doors的風琴及鍵盤手）。一開始他們只是在一些電影習作短篇裏合作，一次在威尼斯的海灘上，Jim為Ray吟唱了一首Moonlight Drive，Ray大為感動，他們覺得音樂也許是表現他們思想更好的方式。曾受過古典音樂演奏訓練的Ray Manzarek 開始為Jim的詩配上布魯斯樂曲。他們和Ray的兄弟組成了車庫隊Rick&The Ravens。他們很快又找到了兩個志同道合的夥伴，這兩位曾是樂隊Psychedelic Rangers(迷幻徘徊者)的成員。吉他手Robbie Krieger 是一個受過古典吉它良好訓練的卻總是睡眼惺忪的布魯斯高手，而自詡為垮掉的一代的鼓手John Densmore則和Jim同樣熱愛倫·金斯伯格和喬治·考索的詩歌，The Doors正式成軍了。The Doors的名字取自1954年的春天Aldus Huxley出版的一本名為The doors of perception(知覺之門)的書，這本書名源自於英國詩人Willam blake的一句詩句“當知覺之門被打開，人們就能看清事物的本來面目，無窮無盡”。而這本介紹麻醉劑的書在60年代初LSD盛行的時候紅極一時，Jim Morrison再把The doors of perception濃縮為The Doors，寓意通過音樂之門來尋找一切事物的答案。 ^[3] 

“The end” 在弗朗西斯·福特·科波拉1979年拍攝的反戰電影《現代啓示錄》開場和主角對Kurtz上校的殺戮一幕中作為背景音樂出現，烘托了絕望，殘酷的鏡頭，營造了對觀眾心靈的絕對震撼。
