這首歌是希臘樂隊Aphrodite‘s Child從德國著名作曲家帕海貝爾的作品canon（卡農）改編而成，樂團在其和絃的基礎上填上新的旋律，從而賦予作品獨特的韻味，緩拍的節奏，悠柔的旋律，蒼涼的歌喉，讓這首歌似乎載滿了所有的愁和怨，歌詞同樣悽切動人，充滿悲情，聽一遍下來，心彷彿被在淚水中浸泡過一般，鹹鹹酸酸，麻木而無助，不知不覺你會對這調調上癮，一遍又一遍的聆聽與尋味歌中那股辛酸與無奈。歌曲在世界廣為流傳，以其而衍生出若干版本。

Aphrodite‘s Child（愛神之子） ^[1]  ，少有人會知道這個樂團，不過如果提起樂團的核心人物（範吉利斯），知曉者就眾多了，這位被稱為“電子樂界的柴可夫斯基”的音樂巨人，他自組的愛神之子合唱團(Aphrodite's Child)曾經紅遍整個歐洲，也成功開發了前衞搖滾樂的新方向。

在這裏值得一提的是，rain and tears作為中國台灣導演侯孝賢執導的電影《最好的時光》的插曲，在影片的第一章中出現，為影片增色不少。劇中，男主角（張震 飾）在信中説這首歌是披頭士（the beatles）的歌，實際上是電影在這裏犯了一個錯誤，披頭士從來沒有過這麼一首歌。 ^[2-5]
