愛莉安娜·格蘭德於2013年9月發行首張錄音室專輯之後，便在2013年10月宣佈自己在和製作人開始第二張專輯的譜寫工作，其後，又公佈了自己與澳大利亞説唱歌手Iggy Azalea的合作。該單曲於2014年1月開始創作，歌詞、曲譜由美國底特律説唱歌手Big Sean，以及Ilya，馬克斯·馬丁和Savan Kotecha一起完成。在創作歌曲旋律之前，薩萬·科特查閲讀了許多的電影和雜誌，並且還花了許多的時間將旋律構建創作下來，歌曲中的一句歌詞“One less problem without ya”來源於一篇名為《Cosmopolitan》的文學作品 ^[4]  。2014年4月18日，愛莉安娜·格蘭德通過Twitter發佈了單曲的封面 ^[5-6]  。

《Problem》像是一首1990年代的城市流行歌曲“大雜燴”，快板、中板、慢板相互穿插，從這首歌曲能看出Ariana Grande不俗的演唱實力和對不同曲風的駕馭能力。雖然歌曲帶有一定的復古風格，但它同時又保持了現代音樂的新鮮感，暴躁的薩克斯、低聲合唱、輕快的合聲和豐富多彩的現代樂節拍，讓這首歌曲分外悦耳。該歌曲被公告牌雜誌評為“2014年十大最佳歌曲”之一，位列第5名 ^[9-10]  。
