歌曲由薩姆·史密斯創作，薩姆·史密斯想為電影中的邦德英勇的背後增添一絲脆弱而創作了這首歌，只花了20分鐘的時間便創作完成。
歌名《Writing's On The Wall》出自《但以理書第五章》，書中寫到“伯沙撒王為他的一千大臣設擺盛筵，有人的指頭顯出，在王宮與燈台相對的粉牆上寫字。王看見寫字的指頭，就變了臉色，心意驚惶。”這個詞組在英文裏暗指將有不好的事情發生。
