2010年，同性戀青少年的輕生自殺率在美國猛增，凱莎知道這件事後便想要創作《We R Who We R》這首歌曲，並以此來點醒年輕人不要輕看自己。後來，凱莎又解釋了這首歌曲的最初靈感是來自於當時社會的一種現象。因為在日常生活中，人們都必須隱藏真實的自己去模仿別人才能生活下去

故此，凱莎想要告訴人們不要去刻意的模仿別人，因為沒有人能夠取代自己。她還説，這首歌曲並不適合每一個人

。在創作的過程中，凱莎主要擔任歌曲的編寫工作，Dr. Luke、雅各布·卡舍爾和本尼·布蘭科負責對歌詞進行完善修改，後兩位製作人和Ammo則負責根據曲譜製作出歌曲的音樂伴奏
