Violet Hill的內容主要展現了現實的黑暗，如所謂政客的頻頻做秀(By a carnival of idiots on show)卻不顧人們的疾苦(From the windows they were watching/While we froze down below)；又用十分犀利的語言,可以説是十分blunt了，嘲笑了宗教的兩面性,一方面宣揚與人為善，同時又對於所謂"正義"的戰爭睜一隻眼閉一隻眼(Priests clutched onto Bibles/Hollowed out to fit their rifles)，頂多也只是事後為之禱告(a cross was held aloft),And a fox became God，可見Martin至少認為是十分狡猾的。Violet Hill可能是一種試圖躲避現實黑暗的一種心靈寄託。
