這張《The Sound of Madness》是佛羅里達另類金屬樂隊Shinedown的第三張正式專輯，與他們上張專輯《Us and Them》相隔了近三年時間。在美國上市首周，《The Sound of Madness》共售出5萬張，空降本週Billboard 200專輯榜的第八位，成為他們打榜成績最好的一張專輯。2004年，Shinedown的處子專輯《Leave a Whisper》曾在Heatseekers專輯榜中獲得冠軍，在Billboard 200專輯榜中名列第53位。2005年，Shinedown的第二張專輯《Us and Them》在上榜首周排在第23位。
與前兩張專輯相比，這張《The Sound Of Madness》更加成熟，將Shinedown的特點表現的更加突出。但是，對於Shinedown這支既算不上地下，又在主流搖滾圈內半紅不黑的樂隊來説，要想讓更多的人記住他們還是有相當的難度。一般來説，這種類型的樂隊在幾張銷量尚可的專輯之後便會逐漸銷聲匿跡。
