歌曲名稱《Sweet Nothing》由“nothing”和“sweet”兩個詞組成，是一種sweet talk，“sweet nothing”這個習慣用語指那些情人之間經常説的甜言蜜語和悄悄話，通常都有些誇張。當“sweet”在作形容詞用的時候，意思是“甜的，甜蜜的。然而它用的“nothing”這個詞， “nothing”作名詞可指“無關緊要的東西；毫無趣味的事情“，可想而知，“sweet nothing”是指“沒有實質內容的話，表示為哄人的情話”。這個通常用在情侶間，情侶間説的不重要的或瑣碎的愛或鍾愛的話（通常是低聲説的），只用作名詞
