Royals創作背景
洛德在接受採訪時表示，自己在創作歌曲之前，就想寫一首與流行藝術家們的奢華生活有關的歌曲，直到她看到1976年7月版的《國家地理》雜誌中，看到了堪薩斯城皇家隊球員喬治·佈雷特的襯衫印有他球隊的名字“Royals”後，便打算將這個單詞作為歌名。她還説，因為自己是一個大戀物癖者，所以就想要將這個單詞作為歌曲的名字，儘管“Royals”只是一個很簡單的詞，但在她看來這個單詞真的很酷

2012年7月，洛德在家裏花了半個小時就寫完了歌曲的歌詞，同時她在聽了很多説唱和另類嘻哈音樂，尤其是拉娜·德雷的歌曲後，就萌發了創作靈感，因為在拉娜·德雷的歌詞中總是會出現漢普頓或者她開着的布加迪威龍。她還説，將一些昂貴的酒、漂亮的衣服和車寫進歌裏，能使歌曲變得非常華麗

Royals歌曲鑑賞
《Royals》由Pro Tools軟件製作而成，是一首以簡約音樂、獨立流行音樂為主的藝術流行歌曲，歌曲節奏為低音貝斯和響指。在這首歌中，洛德始終保持着女中音，音域從F♯3橫跨至A4，歌曲音譜以G大調和教會調試為主，和絃變化為I-bVII-IV（D–C–G）

Royals歌曲MV
《Royals》的歌曲MV由Joel Kefali執導拍攝，在MV中登場的演員全都是洛德的同學。在視頻中，洛德除了唱歌就很少出現在MV中。洛德在介紹這支音樂錄影帶時，表示自己對拍攝MV的態度就像是創建一件藝術品，她覺得自己在拍攝時可以沉浸其中。她還説，自己有必要在MV中建立一個屬於自己的世界，做自己喜歡的事。歌曲MV分“美國版”和“國際版”，儘管這兩種版本使用的是相同的畫面，但是前者更多地點綴了洛德的歌聲，並精剪了MV的開頭以及結尾部分，這使得MV的時間從四分零三秒縮減到到三分二十一秒
