自從2009年坎耶·維斯特搶話筒事件發生後，坎耶·維斯特受到了多方的聲討，幾個月以來都很少出現在媒體的報道當中。坎耶·維斯特利用了這段時間，索性把精力全用在了新作品的創作上面

《POWER》採樣自美國搖滾團體King Crimson的歌曲《21st Century Schizoid Man》。坎耶·維斯特邀請了獨立嘻哈製作人S1一同製作歌曲，而副歌的和聲則請到靈魂歌手Dwele助陣

《POWER》原本是S1為説唱歌手Rhymefest製作的。坎耶·維斯特聽過伴奏後，希望讓S1把該曲給他唱。之後，坎耶讓S1飛往自己所在的夏威夷，並將錄製的幾個版本展示給了S1。一個月後，S1發現該曲的伴奏已經被坎耶·維斯特進一步的修改，變得更加精良

《POWER》伴隨着唱詩班略帶些非洲色彩的和聲，坎耶·維斯特肆意的發表着關於權力、名譽新舊交替的看法。歌詞中的一段“My childlike creativity, purity, and honesty is honestly being crowded by these grown thoughts/ Reality is catching up with me, taking my inner child, I'm fighting for custody。”可以説是坎耶·維斯特為自己內心所想、現實所為的最佳闡述

《POWER》的MV於2010年8月5日首播，長度只有一分半鐘。在MV中，戴着一串碩大的項鍊，下面還有一個巨型吊墜，造型十分誇張。吊墜的獵鷹圖案是古埃及神荷魯斯的頭像。導演馬考·布萊姆比拉表示，MV對歌曲的含意進行了誇張而超級興奮的演繹，但同時，這樣也容易走錯路，因為故事本身就極不穩定，這種矛盾會增加其中的緊張性
