Peter, Paul & Mary

Peter,Paul & Mary是上世紀60年代最受歡迎的重唱組合，後來的幾十年也證明了他們是音樂歷史上生命最長久的團體之一。他們的根比任何一個民謠團體都要扎得深，他們的影響力所波及的聽眾羣是其他民謠團體可望不可及的。

這個三人組合在他們的傳奇生涯中共獲得了5個格來美獎，發行了5張Top 10專輯，6張金唱片和3張白金唱片。Peter,Paul & Mary 由Peter Yarrow，Paul Stookey和Mary Travers組成，他們原來分別活躍於音樂界。在一段幾乎有如傳奇的歷程之後，在後來 Bob Dylan 的經紀人 Grossman 的建議下，正式組成三重唱。

1962年五月，他們首度以《Lemon Tree》打進排行，一炮而紅，接着又以老前輩 Pete Seeger 的《If I Had a Hammer》得到了排行的第十名，同時榮獲“最佳合唱團體”和“最佳民歌錄音”等兩項格萊美獎。這是他們自己最鍾愛的歌曲之一，對政治，對世情都提出了批判，也樹立起後來他們許多“抗議”歌曲的模式。

事實上，他們三個人之所以能夠情投意合，除了音樂上的理念相近，更因為他們對於政治的思想都一致。他們不但在歌曲中唱出自己的想法，還經常一起積極的去參與各種羣眾運動，而且數十年如一日，並不像許多人那樣，在稍微上了點年紀之後就冷淡下來。而除了自身的創作，他們還獨具慧眼的採用了好些“新人”的作品，包括Bob Dylan，John Denver和來自加拿大的Gordon Lightfool 等等，就是因為Peter,Paul & Mary 率先唱紅了他們的作品，他們才開始引起廣泛注意的。

有些人唱歌是為了名利，有些人屹立歌壇，欲為了一份執着的理想，希望透過自己的歌聲，傳遞他們堅決相信真理。在美國的現代民歌史上，曾經有許多著名的藝人與團體，都是以鮮明的政治色彩而著名，包括Pete Seeger，Peter,Paul & Mary三重唱，Bob Dylan 和Joan Baez 等等，都是最標準的例證。他們透過歌唱與實際的行動，狂熱的宣揚反戰的理念，即使備受爭議，甚至遭到逮捕，也在所不惜。事隔多年之後，他們都已經不再年輕，除了其中年齡最大，資歷也最久的Pete Seeger，因為已經將近九十歲而減少公開演唱，Bob Dylan與Joan Baez也不再像過去那樣熱衷於政治，可是，早已當爺爺，奶奶的Peter,Paul & Mary卻依然不改初衷，仍然非常積極的繼續宣揚他們的理念，而且不但唱給昔日的歌迷與羣眾聽，還透過活潑可愛的包裝，把是非對錯的觀念傳遞給新生代的兒童，堪稱非常少見的特例。他們曾經在90年代為公共電視網舉辦過一場親子演唱會的特別節目，許多當年聽着他們歌曲長大的人，都帶着稚齡的孩子，"三代同堂"地前去觀賞。節目一開頭，他們就唱出膾炙人口的Puff,the Magic Dragon，以及一系列幽默，風趣的歌曲，然後不着痕跡的帶來 If I Had a Hammer 等經典，教得孩子們一起來對抗世界所有的不平。
