Independent Women Part I創作背景
《Independent Women Part I》的歌詞直接傳達了“女人不必倚仗男人給她們買東西”的觀點。天命真女組合成員碧昂絲·吉賽爾·諾斯表示，她們之前發行的單曲《Bills, Bills, Bills》讓許多聽眾誤解為天命真女的成員都是拜金女，但事實與之相反，她們都是獨立女性，能自己養活自己。所以，她們發行了這首歌曲，直接回應聽眾對她們的誤解

。碧昂絲在她母親開的美髮沙龍長大。那裏的顧客有的是單親媽媽，有的來自於正常的家庭。但毫無例外，這些女性都很樂觀獨立，碧昂絲很喜歡和她們待在一起，聽她們講故事。她認為，這也是這首歌曲的靈感來源之處

2000年，天命真女經歷人員變動，拉塔薇亞·羅伯森和萊託雅·拉科特被米歇爾·威廉斯和法拉·富蘭克林所替代。之後，碧昂絲、凱莉·羅蘭、米歇爾和法拉共四個人錄製了《Independent Women Part I》的正式版本。但是這首歌發行前法拉·富蘭克林離開了組合。因此這首歌共由四個人演唱，但是封面中只有三個人
