Everglow創作背景

《Everglow》源自酷玩樂隊主唱克里斯·馬汀聽到的一個俚語。有一天，他和一個人正在海邊衝浪，對方説道：“嘿，老兄，前幾天我做了一件事，它給了我永恆之光（this total everglow）.”克里斯·馬汀認為“everglow”是一個奇妙的詞語，於是便以它為標題創作了該曲^[1] 。該曲邀請了克里斯·馬汀的前妻格温妮斯·帕特洛參與和聲，歌中記錄了二人的浪漫往事^[2] 。在歌中加入有關前妻的內容，是克里斯·馬汀的點子。他認為，既然如此，是不是有機會邀請前妻來一起演唱，於是就找到了格温妮斯·帕特洛^[3] 。單曲版在結尾加入了美國拳擊運動員穆罕默德·阿里的演講^[10] 。
