Tobias Sammet (keyboards, vocals), Jens Ludwig (lead guitar), Dirk Sauer (rhythm guitar) and Dominik Storch (drums) start the band Edguy and play their first gigs.托比亞斯扎梅特（鍵盤，主唱），延路德維希（主音吉他），德克索爾（吉他手）和多米尼克斯托奇（鼓）樂隊Edguy開始發揮他們的第一音樂會。

代表德國Power Melodic/Speed Metal新希望的樂團Edguy，承襲了Helloween、Heaven Gate及Blind Guardian等德國speed metal大團的優良血統，並徹底將德意志式的優美旋律發揮到極致，而令人難以置信的是，此樂團竟是由一羣平均年齡還不到十九歲的年輕小夥子所組成的(97年)，實在嚇人，看來speed的勢力又將再度肆虐！

97年所發表的<Kingdom Of Madness>為他們的第二張專輯，許多段落都讓我回想起Helloween的<Keeper of the Seven Keys>，甚至連主唱的聲音也很像Michel Kiske，專輯風貌完全是優美導向的標準speed metal，每首樂曲都是由優美的雙吉他旋律所主導，而鼓手厚實的雙大鼓能力和吉他的搭配也表現出色，然而或許是年紀尚輕，這張專輯在編曲上稍嫌欠缺原創性，且技巧性還有些不足，不過整體順暢的編曲，加上悦耳的旋律鋪陳，仍然可稱得上是一部佳作。

專輯末尾長達18分鐘多的<The Kingdom>，彷佛名曲<Keeper of the Seven Keys>的再現！此曲充份表露了年輕的Edguy向大團們看齊的決心，同時也是將樂團實力完全發揮的最佳表現，專輯概念盡在於此。全曲由多個段落所組成，莊嚴的氣氛、略帶古典味的旋律與優美和聲，都讓人十分動容，順暢的speed metal曲式一氣呵成，最精彩的部份在中段時，一陣陣陰冷的寒風聲中，老人念着一段嘲諷的口白，接着一陣狂笑後，雙吉他再次奏起優美的旋律，清脆的教堂鐘聲穿捘其間，使氣氛更顯淒涼！在一段吉他solo之後，沉重的keyboard襯底下，主唱低聲地吟唱着，接着更加哀美的雙吉他與鍵盤旋律將全曲帶上另一個高峯！真是每一個音符都強烈地撥動我的心絃，全曲在keyboard的烘托之下，成功地營造出中古帝國那種神聖而莊嚴的氣勢！

年輕人不愧是精力旺盛，98年Edguy繼續推出了第三張專輯<Vain Glory Opera>，相較於上一張專輯來説，明顯地可以聽出Edguy的進步！整體表現顯得成熟許多，樂曲不僅更heavy且更具Power，在技巧上亦精進不少，而優美感則絲毫未減，並且加重了keyboard的運用，雖然少了長篇大作，但在編曲上則札實不少！同時Stratovarius的吉他手Timo Tolkki與Blind Gardian主唱Hansi Kursch在專輯中的跨刀演出，更增添了這張專輯的光彩，使專輯可説未演先轟動！

專輯開始，1分半鐘的<Overture>，以華麗的交響襯底及歌劇式合唱做為序曲，一股古典氣勢彷佛迎面而來，接續的<Until We Rise Again#4:27>，立即就是毫不客氣的雙吉他疾走與雙大鼓狂奏！振奮人心的日耳曼大合唱(Alan説)，背後不時出現symphonic鍵盤，中段的雙吉他對彈solo更是讓人不由地跟着甩起頭來！Edguy會在歐洲大放異彩絕對不是沒有道理的！

<How Many Miles#5:39>又是首爽爽歌，雙吉他快速riff，火力十足，中段的華麗鍵盤襯底加上雙吉他協奏solo讓人大呼過癮！

<Scarlet Rose#5:10> (深紅色的玫瑰)是首淒涼番石榴曲，敍述分手後的後悔與思念佳人，

「nothing is forever in life

but a memory - it's true

and when I gaze in the rain

I'm crying just for you...」

好美....人生又能有幾回這樣刻骨銘心的愛情呢？

<Out of Control#5:03>是專輯的注目曲，因為Timo與Hansi都在此曲出現，一開始又是交響式鍵盤的intro，接着，以宛如進行曲般的吉他刷扣，挾着強大的氣勢豋場！莊嚴的曲調讓人為之震懾，最精彩的當然是中段時三把吉他的對飆加上狂踩的雙大鼓，果然是有明日大團的氣派！

接着第6首的同名曲<Vain Glory Opera#6:08>，是專輯中我相當喜歡的一首，開頭以優美的keyboard旋律帶入這首充滿詩意之曲，悠揚的旋律與高雅的氣質，加上Edguy慣用的大合唱讓我深深陶醉，中段時吉他有精彩solo。

第9首<Tomorrow#3:52>，可説是專輯中最美的一曲，以濃烈而華麗的交響鍵盤做為伴奏，主唱幽幽地唱敍着黎明破曉之美與對明天的期待，但也對這充滿謊言與破壞的世界感到憂傷...
