Candle in the Wind 1997

1997年8月31日，戴安娜·弗蘭西斯·斯賓塞王妃在法國巴黎因車禍而去世。這個消息震驚了艾爾頓·約翰，設計師範思哲也同樣死於事故，同一年失去兩位摯友，這讓他一度抑鬱，最終艾爾頓·約翰決定用歌聲紀念，於是創作了這首歌。1997年9月，該首歌的錄製在倫敦西部的Townhouse錄音室完成 ^[5-6]  。

《Candle in the Wind 1997》是艾爾頓·約翰對《Candle in the Wind》重新填詞後的作品。《Candle in the Wind》是艾爾頓·約翰和貝爾尼·陶賓在1973年為紀念美國影星瑪麗蓮·夢露創作的一首歌曲，瑪麗蓮·夢露去世去這首歌創作的11年前。1997年，艾爾頓·約翰在戴安娜王妃的葬禮上表演了重新填詞的版本 ^[7]  。

1997年8月31日，英國戴安娜王妃在法國巴黎遭遇車禍去世，一時使全世界充滿了一種悲情。而讓這種悲情達到頂點的，恰恰就是艾爾頓為戴安娜王妃亡故所傾情演唱的《Candle In the Wind 1997》。他在歌裏的動情與動容，最終也和戴安娜王妃生前的音容笑貌交織在一起，成為人們對這位悲情王妃紀念的一部分 ^[9]  。歌詞中寄託在艾爾頓對王妃的思念的尊重。這是可以肯定的，《Candle In the Wind 1997》傳遞着實際着需要的人的舒適和悲傷之間的差異 ^[10]  。
