Before He Cheats創作背景
喬什·基爾在克里斯·湯普金斯搬家後拜訪他，兩人暢談時無意中哼出歌曲旋律。於是他們決定順着旋律完成了歌曲。喬什·基爾表示，歌曲中描述的女主人公是她的理想伴侶，而他的朋友總是拿這事情開玩笑。兩位詞曲作者決定將歌詞改進的更加幽默

。這首歌原本是寫給格蕾琴·威爾遜的，但是克里斯·湯普金斯認為凱莉·安德伍德的在公眾面前樹立的好女孩形象更能幫助這首歌的走紅，所以這首歌最終由凱莉·安德伍德演唱
