細胞骨架體系不僅推動細胞分裂、細胞遷移等多種細胞運動，而且在細胞核中調控着基因的表達以及染色體的組織。

其實驗室主要使用結構生物學等方法研究：

（1）原核和真核細胞骨架蛋白的結構與動態行為的調控機理

（2）核骨架蛋白的結構以及在染色質重塑中的作用

（3）胞質分裂中的生物大分子機器的運轉機理。 ^[1] 

2018年8月3日，國家自然科學基金委員會公佈2018年度國家傑出青年科學基金建議資助項目申請人名單，其中陳柱成研究領域的染色質重塑項目在2018年度國家傑出青年科學基金建議資助項目申請人名單內。 ^[2] 

2023年11月，被授予2023年度第十六屆談家楨生命科學創新獎。 ^[5-6]
