,2012年,全國鐵路營業里程達到9.8萬公里,比上年增長4.7%。其中,複線里程4.4萬公里,比上年增長10.8%,複線率44.8%,比上年提高2.5個百分點;電氣化里程5.1萬公里,比上年增長10.8%,電化率52.3%,比上年提高2.9個百分點。西部地區營業里程達到3.7萬公里,比上年增加1060公里、增長2.9%。

2023年2月,中華人民共和國2022年國民經濟和社會發展統計公報發佈,2022年我國新建鐵路投產里程4100公里,其中高速鐵路2082公里;增、新建鐵路複線投產里程2658公里,電氣化鐵路投產里程3452公里。

2023年前11月,全國鐵路固定資產投資完成6407億元,同比增長7.4%,截至2023年11月30日,全國鐵路營業里程超15.55萬公里,其中高鐵4.37萬公里。
