許埈珥

1983年，許埈珥出生在美國加利福尼亞，韓裔美籍。他少年時期數學成績不理想，自認為沒有數學天賦，最愛文學，寫過詩歌、小説，夢想成為一名詩人。但在首爾大學讀書時，發現詩人身份不能謀生，便打算做一名科學記者，主修天文學和物理學 ^[8]  。

2006年，進入大四時，“菲爾茲獎”得主廣中平佑到首爾大學訪學，並開設一年的代數幾何課。許埈珥認為，這位“名人”可以作為科學記者的第一個選題。隨着課程深入，100多名學生因為課程難度大而逐漸退課，許埈珥卻一直留了下來。後來，許埈珥直接跟隨廣中平佑讀了研究生。

2009年，從首爾大學研究生畢業，導師廣中平佑勸他去美國的大學再修一個研究生。然而，由於許埈珥非數學本科出身，儘管有廣中平佑的推薦，美國十幾所研究生院都拒絕了他的申請，最終只有伊利諾伊大學香檳分校（University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign）願意接受許埈珥研究生申請。

2014年，從美國密歇根大學，導師為Mircea Mustaţă教授，獲得博士學位，論文獲得傑出博士論文獎（ProQuest Distinguished Dissertation Award）。

2014年—2017年，擔任普林斯頓高等研究院（Institute for Advanced Study）和普林斯頓大學（Princeton University）Veblen Fellow ^[9]  。

2014年—2019年，擔任美國克雷數學研究所（Clay Mathematics Institute）Clay Fellow ^[12]  。

2014年—2019年，擔任韓國高等研究院（Korea Institute for Advanced Study）KIAS學者（Scholar）。

許埈珥將霍奇理論（Hodge theory）引入到組合學中，證明了幾何格上的道林—威爾遜猜想（Dowling–Wilson conjecture）、擬陣上的海倫—羅塔—威爾士猜想（Heron–Rota–Welsh conjecture）、強梅森猜想（strong Mason conjecture），推動了洛倫茲多項式理論（theory of Lorentzian polynomials）的發展 ^[14]  。
