美國文學簡史

《美國文學簡史》試圖簡潔而全面地展現美國民族的想象力——以文字形式體現出來的想象力。《美國文學簡史》共分五章，第一章實際上是前史，即美國文學正式誕生前的文學史，是對新大陸這一“伊甸園”的想象。第二章的主題為“美國文學的創造” ，與“創造美國”這一主題密切相關，論述美國從1800年建國後到1865年南北戰爭結束之間的美國文學。第三章的主題為“重現過去，重塑未來”，與“重建美國”這一主題密切相關，論述南北戰爭後到1900 年之間的美國文學。第四章的主題為現代美國和現代主義，論述1900年至1945年二戰結束之間的美國文學。第五章的主題是“美國的世紀”，論述1945年二戰結束後美國逐漸稱霸時期的美國文學。 ^[1]
