    第一季 01-恆星Stars

    在可觀測的宇宙裏,有超過一千億個星系。光是在我們的星系裏,就有一千億顆恆星。恆星數量超過地球上的沙粒。恆星,它們龐大、熾熱而無所不在,在暴力中誕生,在巨大爆炸中死亡的恆星使宇宙充滿星塵,構成生命的元件。你體內的每一個原子都是在恆星的熾熱核心裏產生的。恆星是使宇宙運轉的天體,一切生命都從這裏開始。


    02-黑洞Black Holes

    黑洞是宇宙最神秘的天體,它的重力是無限大,沒有東西能夠逃脱,它能夠吞沒整個星系。黑洞是所有事物的終點,它是恆星的終點,它是物質的終點,它是能量的終點,它是重力的終點。某些天文學家認為黑洞可能是前往平行宇宙的通道。黑洞代表現代天文學的未知領域。黑洞是如何形成的?宇宙中有無數的黑洞,而我們為什麼能逃離開它?


    03-大爆炸Big Bang

    在140億年前,這裏什麼都沒有。直到大爆炸,大爆炸是空間和時間的原點。宇宙的一切都是由物質構成的,在大爆炸的一瞬間被創造出來。它鎖著我們過去的、現在的和未來的秘密,在空間和時間開始時,一個巨大的爆炸創造了萬物,宇宙瞬間出現,從絕對虛無變成一切,從一個比原子還小的點,產生所有的質量和能量,包括宇宙中的四千億個星系。


    04-星系Galaxies

    我們生活在一個叫做銀河的星系裏,銀河有幾十億顆恆星,我們的太陽只是其中之一。在已知的宇宙裏有兩千億個星系,星系是恆星誕生和死亡的地方。星系裏有恆星、太陽系、行星和衞星,其實根據物理原理,星系應該飛散,那麼是什麼力量凝聚它們?這力量叫做「暗物質」。星系來自何處?它們怎麼運作?它們的未來是什麼?它們會怎麼死?


    05-太陽系Solar Systems

    我們的太陽系有八顆行星和三百多顆衞星,今天看到的太陽系,其實只是早期混亂的最後生存者,在未來,混亂還會再回來。早期的太陽系不像今天的太陽系這麼有序,它暴烈,不安,數以億萬計的天體互相牽引、撞擊、吞沒。每個太陽系有一個共同點,都是從一顆恆星開始發展,恆星從叫做星雲的塵埃和氣體雲裏誕生。


    06-行星Planets

    我們原本只知道環繞太陽運行的一些行星,但現在我們發現岩石行星和氣體巨行星,也在環繞其他恆星。我們的內太陽系內太陽系有四顆岩石行星,外太陽系有四顆氣體巨行星。地球被撞擊過許多次,縱然有水也早該汽化掉了,那麼地球上的水是從哪裏來的?沒有水當然就沒有生命,但是宇宙中其他有水的行星呢?


    07-衞星Moons

    在宇宙中,萬物好像都在環繞什麼東西運行,行星環繞恆星運行,衞星環繞行星運行,有些衞星有火山,但噴發出的是冰,有些衞星上面有浩瀚的海洋,有些衞星有大氣層圍繞,銀河系裏適合居住的衞星或許比適合居住的行星更多。衞星訴説我們太陽系中不為人知的故事,告訴我們它如何運行。


    08-超新星Supernovas

    一顆爆炸的超大恆星,叫做超新星。在宇宙史上,超新星是最大的「激變」。超新星有各種大小和類型,但它們全都非常亮,整個宇宙都能看到。超新星是你能想像的、最猛烈的恆星死亡。但是恆星慘烈的毀滅,也是我們周圍一切的誕生。超新星釋放比太陽大幾兆倍的能量,我們的行星、太陽和周圍的一切,都是一顆超新星爆炸後的殘餘物質形成的。


    第二季 01-生命的熔爐Volcanoes - The Furnaces of Life

    首集《瞭解宇宙如何運行》將介紹不同星球上的火山。火山雖然極具破壞力,但它噴出的熔岩可以造成新地,爆發的氣體亦能改變氣候,可説是地球生命的源頭。科學家從而推斷,如果外星也存在火山,可能象徵着存在生命;而同樣存在火山的火星,可否成為人類將來的居所?


    02-創造之風Megastorms - The Winds of Creation

    是關於風的形成和它的威力。龍捲風、颶風、雪暴、閃電和洪水都是極具破壞力的自然現象,然而它們亦是推動地球運行的力量。氣候是其中一個令地球充滿生命的原因,即使是最強和最具摧毀性的風暴,亦會帶來生機。過去,人類不斷探索宇宙中是否有和地球相似的星球;科學家最近發現一種新方法:我們不應只尋找相似的星球,而是要尋找和地球有相似氣候的星體。他們認為,能應用在地球的定律,在其他星球應該亦能應用。節目將會在浩瀚的宇宙中,尋找和地球相似的巨型風暴,或者便能成為找到外星生命的線索。


    03-地獄星球Exoplanets - Planets from Hell

    會為大家介紹宇宙中不同星體的特點。過去的20年,人類不斷髮掘地球以外的星體,期望找到另一個“天堂”。在銀河系中上百萬兆的星體當中,到底有沒有另一個地球?人類至今已發掘多於700個星球,但它們不但與地球沒半點相似的地方,反而是宇宙中的煉獄:有的温度高達1000度、有的是零下數百度、更有佈滿足以致命的輻射,或完全沒有光……地球能夠孕育生命,是因為它和太陽保持適當的距離,並且有水源。在浩瀚的宇宙中,還有500多億個尚未發掘的星球;科學家相信,人類仍然有可能找到另一個和地球條件相似,充滿生機的星球。


    04-宇宙大爆發Megaflares - Cosmic Firestorms

    本集將會帶大家認識宇宙中的火焰。宇宙是一個極大的磁場,充滿隨時爆炸的星體。即使是太陽噴出的小火焰,也足以影響地球的通訊系統和能源,然而這也只是宇宙中眾多火焰的一小部份。在太空的某些星體會破裂和爆炸,磁場亦會令星體分裂,釋放出極具摧毀力的能量,在銀河系噴出的伽瑪射線更可以橫跨半個宇宙。隨着科學家掌握更多有關宇宙中種種“武器”的研究和資料。人類開始認識宇宙最危險的巨型火焰,而科學家下一步要探索的是,地球會否成為這些無情火焰所吞噬的對象?


    05-軌道與創造Extreme Orbits - Clockwork and Creation

    將會介紹宇宙的軌跡。“軌跡”是推動宇宙的動力,從最小的行星到龐大的銀河系,宇宙中的一切都在軌跡中運行。地球能孕育生命,並讓人類安然居住,全賴它有規律地依循穩定的軌跡運行。然而在宇宙中,大部份的軌跡並不像地球般穩定,大多是混亂,多變和猛烈的。我們的太陽系統以外的星體,由於運行軌跡不穩定,它們會焚燬,互相殲滅,更有威力無比的黑洞,摧毀在它們軌跡內運行的所有東西。雖然如此,從宏觀角度來看,軌跡也是一種創意動力;在銀河的層面上,軌跡更是建構宇宙的重要元素。


    06-冰凍漫遊者Comets - Frozen Wanderers

    介紹燦爛的彗星。彗星劃過大氣層的時候,拖着一條長長的閃爍尾巴——就是我們在地球所見,偶爾在天空出現的流星。但原來彗星除了燦爛之外,在現代科學中亦佔據着獨特的位置。彗星自古就存在,很可能就是解開宇宙秘密的鑰匙,甚或是生命的源頭。節目會展示彗星誕生的奇妙歷程:從一塊結冰的大石頭,飛過太陽系統,繼而演變為一顆極為活躍,被氣體包圍的星核。彗星的形成帶來一個啓示:它遠比人類所想像的更神秘,更迷人!


    07-前所未有的世界Asteroids - Worlds That Never Were

    介紹宇宙中惡名昭彰的小行星。科學家推測,恐龍也是因為小行星撞向地球而絕種;但除此以外,遠古的小行星亦可能是建構地球、帶給地球生命的主因。小行星不但影響地球的過去,亦大大影響我們的未來。它們是“宇宙殖民地”的最佳位置,亦可能是令人類移居太空的重要踏腳石。太空中有各種各樣的小行星:冰封的、純鐵造的……科學家一直致力解開小行星的秘密。它們會否孕育新的星體?又是否操控不同星體的“生死大權”?


    08-地球誕生Birth of the Earth

    第二季最後一集《瞭解宇宙如何運行》,帶來與人類最息息相關的主題:地球的誕生。地球上有超過10億種動、植物;這些生命並非從星球誕生之初就存在。地球曾經歷劇烈的地殼變動、火山爆發及星體相撞等,才逐漸演變成生機勃勃的星球。宇宙中會否有另一個星體,像地球一樣經歷連串的變化而孕育出生命?這樣的機會看似渺茫,但從地球的誕生過程來看,在浩瀚的宇宙中,另一個“地球”絕對有可能存在。因此,科學家不再徘徊在“到底有沒有另一個地球”的問題上,而是“另一個地球到底距離我們有多遠”。
