2009年獲加拿大英哥倫比亞大學（UBC）物理海洋學博士學位
1999年獲美國麻省理工（MIT/WHOI）物理海洋學碩士學位
1996年獲中國海洋大學物理海洋學碩士學位
1993年獲中國海洋大學應用數學學士學位 [1]

王彩霞主要研究方向

主要從觀測、理論、實驗、遙感等方面對南海、黃海、喬治海峽等的內波進行研究。
有實際科學研究合作的單位包括：與美國伍茲霍爾海洋研究所在內波實驗方面進行合作、與加拿大英屬哥倫比亞大學在內波觀測和實驗方面合作、與英國UCL (University of College London)大學在內波理論方面合作、與葡萄牙University of Porto大學在內波遙感方面進行合作等。 [1]
