多年生，全株無毛、無粉，或花葶、花序被粉。葉叢基部無鱗片，葉柄叉開，不互相包疊。葉矩圓形至倒披針形，基部漸狹窄，邊緣具小齒。花葶伸長，通常着生2至多輪傘形花序；花異型，稀同型；花萼鍾狀或狹鍾狀；花冠漏斗狀。蒴果角質，近頂端稍增厚，通常近球形，稍短於花萼，很少呈短筒狀且稍長於花萼。
