塔帕爾斯Thegravelly-voicedpatrolchiefofOtohGunga,CaptainTarpalshasenduredmanyaheadachecausedbytheanticsofJarJarBinks.Tarpalskeptaneyeonthebumblingoutcast,makingsuretheyoungsterdidn'tre-enterGungansociety.

DuringtheTradeFederationoccupationofNaboo,TarpalswaspartoftheGunganGrandArmythatfoughtagainstthebattledroidinvaders.Ironically,TarpalsservedunderBinks,whohadunexpectedlyreceivedtherankofgeneralbyBossnasshimself.TarpalsstayedclosetoBinks,tryingtokeephiscommandingofficeroutoftrouble.

貿易聯盟（TradeFederation）佔領納布（Naboo）期間，塔帕爾斯是岡根大軍的戰士，與入侵的戰鬥機器人展開激戰。頗為諷刺的是，塔帕爾斯居然要聽從賓克斯指揮，因為後者突然由納斯酋長親自授予了將軍軍銜。塔帕爾斯始終待在賓克斯左右，免得這位將軍惹上麻煩。

塔帕爾斯就任隊長後，頭一件任務就是執行“不許回來”法令，把賓克斯趕出城外。然而這不是件簡單的任務，儘管塔帕爾斯和賓克斯千差萬別，兩人卻是好友，哪怕是完全不相稱的朋友。塔帕爾斯曾因賓克斯毛手毛腳觸犯法律而逮捕過他，但是一旦這個年輕人有了麻煩，他總是第一個跑來援助。塔帕爾斯對賓克斯這麼熱誠，因此吃了不少苦頭，岡根人都把賓克斯稱為“塔帕爾斯隊長的剋星”。

塔帕爾斯SincethecreaturedesignofJarJarBinkswastheprototypeformostotherGungansappearinginthefilm,thedesignteamhadtocomeupwithwaystodifferentiatethoseGunganswithmoreprominentroles.Tothisend,theartistsexperimentedwithfacialfeaturesandexpressions,aswellascostuming,toachievecharacterindividuality.InthecaseofCaptainTarpals,droopingwhiskersandhair-likefinletswereintroducedtoindicateadvancedage.Furtherdesignfeaturesincludethepresenceofbattlegear,whichhelpedtogiveCaptainTarpalsthelookofacombat-seasonedmilitaryfigure.

加·加·賓克斯的生物造型，是電影中大多數岡根人的原型，設計小組必須想辦法為比較突出的岡根角色設計出不同相貌。為此，藝術家們嘗試着加入不同的面部特徵、表情，以及各異的着裝，來區別不同角色。在設計塔帕爾斯隊長時，下垂的鬍鬚和像頭髮一樣的小鰭，顯示出了他年長的身份。再加上其他特徵，比如戰鬥裝備，塔帕爾斯隊長被塑造成了一個久經沙場的老兵形象。
