在一家古舊的旅館內，員工們都去歡度新年假期，只有一個小侍應生(Tim Roth 蒂姆·羅素 飾)留守。當夜，光怪陸離的事件輪番上演：

1， 一羣女巫準備在當晚復活他們的女神，而她們卻弄丟了至關重要的精液，小侍應生臨時客串，勇敢獻身。

2， 善妒的丈夫懷疑妻子與他人有染，遂將妻子綁在椅子上，倒黴的侍應生則被當作姦夫，手槍抵頭，命懸一線。

3， 富翁夫妻參加新年宴會，將子女留在房間中。兩個淘氣的小傢伙展開了一場大戰，卻看到了恐怖的一幕。

4， 幾名好萊塢演員湊在房間中玩打火機遊戲，每人打十下，十下連續打着就會贏得一部跑車，反之有一下不着便要切掉一根手指。侍應生被臨時找來充當劊子手。 ^[1]

本片由四個短片構成，前兩個略帶神秘和色情的小故事，雖然能夠短暫地吸引觀眾的視線，但轉眼就會被忘得乾乾淨淨。神秘的都市巫女們，卻像舞女一樣寬衣解帶，嘴裏一面説着無聊的貌似哲理的語言，一面也沒有忘記用上幾句塔倫蒂諾式的帶勁的台詞。羅德里格茲那一段故事表現得和他以後的作品一樣花哨、機巧，卻也同樣空洞，但這也可以説是影片向最後一個優秀部分的過渡。説它“優秀”，其實也無非是和前面的乏味相比較，塔倫蒂諾至少也平平穩穩地展現了自己在這幾個獨立電影製作人中的才華和地位。

最後一個段落裏，塔倫蒂諾不僅自己飾演“自己”——一個剛剛在好萊塢出名的電影人，一個什麼時候都不甘寂寞的“好萊塢痞子”，一個喜歡冒險和刺激的“明星動物”，而且還請出動作大腕布魯斯·威利斯助陣，比起前面客串的麥當娜來説又更勝一籌。 　這的確是檢閲美國新興獨立製片電影人的一部集錦片，雖然只是短片組合，但也基本能夠讓所有觀眾看個清楚。塔倫蒂諾雖有才盡之嫌，但畢竟還是這一夥人之中的“江郎”，而羅德里格茲也勉強堪當一面，而另外兩位就實在是有點濫竽充數的味道了。這部影片從取材到處理方式，都是十足的美國獨立製片感覺：誇張、略帶魔幻、看似哲理、頹敗刺激、台詞市井…… ^[1]
