2000年9月—2007年8月,哈佛大學醫學院,博士學位。
2007年9月— 2009年7月,麥肯錫諮詢有限公司諮詢顧問。
2009年7月—2010年11月,新奧科技發展有限公司副總裁助理、高級技術顧問。
2010年,獲聘為吉林大學唐敖慶特聘教授。
2013年,任吉林大學工程仿生教育部重點實驗室教授、博導。 [1]

劉鎮寧教授的研究聚焦於生物醫學、材料科學、醫用器械及其交叉領域,主要包括應用於環境、能源和生物醫療方面材料和裝置的設計和製備,如人工皮膚材料的合成及其相關製造工藝研究,能源化功能材料/表面的設計與製備,如電化學催化劑、贗電容、雜化納米材料、納米藥物載體、可降解植入材料、光催化系統、自修復材料、耐磨材料等。 [1]
