兄弟之戰源於一真實的故事，講述二戰末期一德國士兵被俘和逃亡的遭遇，克勞斯因為無意中撞見蘇聯的陰謀，被蘇軍追殺，在獄中偶遇有相同遭遇的英國駐波蘭特使兼駐蘇軍武官安德魯以及願跟他們向西撤退的波蘭護士安娜。電影從德波邊境的一場阻擊戰開始，克勞斯率隊成功阻擊蘇軍進攻，後來在巡邏過程中看見蘇軍屠殺手無寸鐵的波蘭猶太人，因此受到追殺。一同目睹此場景的還有英國武官安德魯。英國武官被投進監獄，而此時牢房裏面已經有數個前幾天被俘的德軍士兵。
