王亞平於1977年考入陝西師範大學地理系；1982年—1985年任陝西師範大學地理學助教；1985年赴英國愛丁堡藝術學院/赫瑞-瓦特大學留學；1991年獲得博士學位，先後在英國愛丁堡藝術學院和赫瑞-瓦特大學任博士後研究員、講師、副教授、教授；2007年—2012年任蘇格蘭中國城市與環境研究中心、赫瑞瓦特大學建築環境學院創始主任；2008年晉升為城市研究系教授

王亞平人物經歷
1977年，王亞平考入陝西師範大學地理系。
1982年—1985年，任陝西師範大學地理學助教。
1991年，獲得博士學位，先後在英國愛丁堡藝術學院和赫瑞-瓦特大學任博士後研究員、講師、副教授、教授。
2007年—2012年，任蘇格蘭中國城市與環境研究中心、赫瑞瓦特大學建築環境學院創始主任。
2013年，任英國格拉斯哥大學城市研究繫世界城市未來講席教授。
2013年—2015年，任英國格拉斯哥大學城市研究繫系主任。

- 科研綜述
王亞平主要研究領域包括中國城市化與城市發展，城市住房制度改革及其社會影響，人口流動及對城市住房市場及需求的影響，城中村及其改造，城市發展的國際比較研究

，全球化和城市化，城市貧困、城市低收入農民生活條件，城中村、土地和城市發展，土地和住房補償方案，城市社會改革等

（1）對亞洲和非洲發展中國家城市及社區的可持續性發展做了系統研究。通過對分佈在7個國家的14個案例城市及社區的調研，對不同國家、城市不同社區的人居環境，人口家庭結構， 經濟活動，社會服務配置，社區管理狀況做了對比分析。對不同層次城市社區所面臨的可持續發展問題做了系統研判

（2）系統研究了中國城市流動人口及其住房狀況對城市化過程的影響。從20世紀90年代初期開始，王亞平先後對深圳、瀋陽、重慶和西安等城市的流動人口做了多次問卷調查或訪談，並基於深入細緻的調查和分析，揭示了流動人口對中國工業化發展初級階段及地方經濟與社會發展、城市化過程等的影響機理；從非正規性城市化發展角度分析了流動人口的住房狀況及分佈格局，對流動人口聚集的城中村的發展變化過程做了創新性研究，提出了包括城中村、非正規經濟與社區發展在內的城市發展新模式和新策略

（3）分析中國20世紀90年代城市住房改革與東歐國家改革及英國公共住房私有化政策，指出城市住房改革在中國可能產生的短期及長遠影響，如貧富分化、低收入人口將面臨新的住房困難、城市新增人口的住房負擔，以及住房與工作單位分離引起的新的城市社會組織及管理等問題。提出了重新構建城市社會性住房供應體系的建議，為社會保障房、住房公積金等政策的制定提供了科學依據
